From “Someday” to “Today”

All Abilities Skateboarding Brings the First Adaptive Skateboarding Frame to the U.S.

Just two years ago, phrases like “Sorry,” or “We don’t have that,” or “Maybe in the future we’ll have this device” were all too familiar to the team at All Abilities Skateboarding when discussing the Adaptive Skateboarding Frame (ASF). That changed in 2025, when the organization proudly received and launched the first ASF in the United States — marking a monumental step forward for adaptive skateboarding and inclusive recreation.

When founder Andrew Garcia established All Abilities Skateboarding, his mission was clear: to create opportunities for everyone — from competitive para-athletes with full independence to individuals who require complete support — to experience skateboarding and the freedom it represents. Over time, the team became skilled in adapting traditional skateboards, WCMX chairs, and boards equipped with mounted canes, continually finding ways to make skating more accessible. But Garcia and his team knew something was still missing.

To achieve true inclusion, they envisioned the same Adaptive Skateboarding Frame that had been pioneered in Brazil by Skate Anime — a frame designed to safely harness individuals with limited or no mobility, allowing them to stand and feel the sensation of skateboarding in motion.

The early years were challenging. There were countless participants who could have benefited from the ASF, but without the right equipment, it was impossible to safely support them. The All Abilities team always placed safety and comfort first, but there were heartbreaking moments when they had to tell a participant or parent, “This might not work.” For Garcia, those moments underscored the urgency of finding a better solution.

That breakthrough came when Community Health First Plan in San Antonio stepped up to support the vision. Through their generosity, All Abilities Skateboarding was able to place an order for its first Adaptive Skateboarding Frame with Finch Fabrication in spring 2025. By late summer, the frame had arrived — and with it, a new chapter began.

The first session using the ASF served a group of participants living with Cerebral Palsy. The impact was immediate and unforgettable. The joy, pride, and excitement on each participant’s face said everything words could not. A short video clip from that day — shared on Facebook as a simple highlight — went viral, amassing over 1.1 million likes and 45 million views worldwide.

Since then, All Abilities Skateboarding’s ability to serve its community has grown beyond expectation. The ASF has become a true game-changer, opening the door for countless new athletes to join the adaptive skateboarding movement.

For Garcia and the team, this frame is more than just a piece of equipment — it’s a symbol of possibility, inclusion, and progress. It stands as proof that someday can become today when communities, innovators, and advocates come together with one shared belief:

Everyone deserves the chance to roll, ride, and feel the thrill of skateboarding.
