New Regional Skatepark Opens in Mandeville, Louisiana with an Incredible Day of Community and Adaptive Skateboarding
The WCMX community had an amazing time on May 2nd at the grand opening of the new Pelican Skatepark in Mandeville. The event brought together skateboarders, families, adaptive athletes, and community members from all different backgrounds for a day that truly showed the power of skateboarding and inclusion.
Representatives from TNT 360 Mobility, Ability Skateboarding, and Action Sports were honored to attend the celebration and host a WCMX and adaptive skate clinic earlier in the day before the main event kicked off. The clinic gave riders and spectators the chance to experience adaptive skateboarding firsthand, ask questions, and see what is possible when accessibility and action sports come together.
From the moment the day started, the energy at the park was incredible. The entire Pelican Skatepark team welcomed everyone with open arms, and the support from the local skateboarding community was something special to witness. Riders of all ages and abilities shared the park together, encouraged one another, and celebrated the opening of a facility that is going to create opportunities for years to come.
One of the highlights of the day was seeing adaptive athletes experience the adaptive skateboarding frame provided by Ability Skateboarding & Action Sports. Adaptive athlete Chris Block shared his thoughts after riding:
“The adaptive skateboarding frame from Ability Skateboarding & Action Sports was a truly freeing experience. For a moment, all limitations melted away and I felt pure freedom again. The ride was incredible, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.”
Events like this are a reminder of why skateparks matter so much. They are more than just concrete and ramps. Skateparks bring people together regardless of background, culture, or ability level. They create spaces where friendships are built, confidence grows, and communities become stronger through shared passion and creativity.
For the adaptive skateboarding and WCMX community, seeing accessibility and inclusion embraced at events like this continues to push the movement forward. The excitement from the crowd, the smiles from new riders trying adaptive equipment, and the overall love throughout the day made this an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
The World WCMX Federation would like to thank everyone at Pelican Skatepark, the local skate community, the volunteers, families, and all the riders who made the grand opening such a success. We are excited to see the impact this new regional skatepark will have on the Gulf Coast skateboarding scene and look forward to returning in the future.
